Edwina meets her future best friend

1936 August

(Added by David)  When I asked Mum's oldest friend Phyllis Kiddy how they first met, she told me this.

It was in August 1936. I had just moved into Long Melford and Edwina came knocking on the door with a friend from the village.  "I understand you will be going to the Girls' High School in Sudbury and you'll probably be in my form so we came to say hello."  Phyllis says that must have been quite brave for her.  They hit it off from the start and were best friends for the next 3 years until Mum left school - and have been in touch ever since, by letter  most of the time and using the phone more recently.

I know that Mum always treasured her friendship with Phyllis, and we quite often managed to take her to visit Phyllis in Sudbury where she still lives.
